The men of Michigan Lacrosse are currently having a historical year, one that is defined by defeating The Ohio State University (that team from down south) twice, defeating the University of Maryland, Coach Kevin Conry’s old stomping grounds, a blue-blood program, not once but twice in convincing fashion. We are no longer the little brother of BIG10 Lacrosse.
Peer-led, peer-driven.
This team is special, it is a super team, led by a core of graduate students & seniors. The motto, within the locker, this season has been “BELIEVE OR LEAVE”. Simple, yet profound.
I had mentioned something similar to this concept in an earlier newsletter when discussing Yale Men’s Lacrosse, and that it that this is a player-led team. A team becomes champion worthy when peers are holding their peers accountable. Peer-led, Peer-driven. The love for each other to thrive & achieve the successes as a whole, as a team, is what is fueling this run.
The Michigan Lacrosse Process.
Brick-Layers.
The men of Michigan Lacrosse won’t provide the flash & dazzle as other programs, but one thing is for certain and that is the players have been developed through a blue collar mentality. Day by day, coming together as a team and doing the hard things day-in day-out with an enthusiasm unknown to man-kind. Coach Conry has instilled a relentless standard with the small things that become the DNA of the players and the program at large.
Those Who Stay Will Be Champions.
This one is a special one, this man is very special and is worth his weight in gold. There been a photo circulating of who the man was that was chosen to first receive the BIG10 championship plaque. His name is Joe Hennessy and has been with the program for 20 years, serving as the Director of Operations, even before the program was varsity status.
He has seen it all, born & raised in Ann Arbor, attended the University as a student & chose to serve the athletic department & the University he hold dearly in his heart. He has stayed, persevered and now is a champion.
