My favorite way to start lacrosse practice is with lacrosse.

This is specifically gauge towards youth lacrosse practice, we only have 1 to 2, possibly 3 practices with our players a week each between 60 to 90 minutes on average with that understanding it is a must to maximize the time with our players and so how do we do that?

How can we start practices in a way that will have the greatest quality of development, in the most efficient way, for the majority of the players?

I draw upon the comparison of sport and language. In the context of learning a language, what is the quickest and best way of doing so?

Because language and sport are nearly identical, in both of these the ability to ingest and digest information dynamically is at the foundation.  In language, the quickest and best way to become proficient is to immerse yourself in that language, to be in, around, listening and speaking. Would you argue this, especially for children, whom are so impressionable and intuitive?

Similarly to learning lacrosse, the quickest and best way to become proficient is to immerse our players in lacrosse during the environment that we can “practice”, for them to be in, around, perceiving and playing the game!

So we start practice with live-lacrosse.

We only have so much time with her players during a practice and throughout the week, that every moment together must be spent as effectively as possible, and it’s my belief that the most effective way of spending the time is to play the game dynamically in live situations.

Yes, I am saying that we forgo a traditional dynamic warm-up, and use lacrosse as the dynamic warm-up, because of the first reason I just laid out with time being a limiting factor, as well as the players, that we are working with do you have the ability of going from cold to warm without too much of a hindrance.

Food for thought!
